Is a documentary on the History channel claims that "The Beast of Le Gévaudan" was in reality a Hyena under the control of Jean Chastel who ultimately shot it. They claim he was a serial killer who trained the animal to carry out his dirty work and killed it to gain the notoriety. Thoughts on this theroy?

I didn't see the program so take this with a grain of salt, but I'm not to sure about this. The hyena can be vicious but only one animal, even well trained seems a bit of a stretch as they run in packs. Which brings up another question, how did he keep the animal hidden while he trained it? He would've had to have gotten it as a pup. So you are looking at two or three years from the time he aquired it till the time of the murders wouldn't it?
However, the whole theory is definatly not out of the realm of possibility.
